RSP Architects received the Gold Award for Merdeka 118, a collaboration project with the Australian architect firm, Fender Katsalidis Architects, under the Commercial (High Rise) category. This is another honourable achievement for Merdeka 118, after recently receiving the Award for Commercial Architecture at the 2026 Australian Institute of Architects International Chapter Architecture Awards.

The project which launched back in January 2024 was ranked as the second tallest building in the world and has gained several achievements and recognitions since. Merdeka 118 was awarded Platinum rating certifications from Green Building Index (GBI), Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and Green Real Estate (GreenRE), making it the first triple-green platinum-rated mega-tall building in Malaysia.

Another project within the Stadium Merdeka urban revitalisation precinct, Look At 118, also managed to receive Commendation under the Commercial (Low Rise) category, as well as both Residensi Allevia Mont’ Kiara and Maya Ara Residences received Commendation under the Residential (High Rise) category.

The PAM Awards 2026 nominations which started in December and had its last stage of vetting process in March, shortlisted four of RSP Architects’ projects for its final judging process. We are truly humbled and honoured to receive acknowledgement and appreciation from PAM as all four of those projects were awarded during the night.

The centre’s architectural vision was inspired by the rich elements of heritage and traditions of Perak and the centre’s location which is set against a backdrop of rolling green mountain ranges. Set on a 38.47-acre land, RSP Architects designed the masterplan of the project to replicate the look of a Bunga Tekat Emas (gold embroidery).

The integration of Rumah Kutai in the design of this rehabilitation project results in a more efficient building. The sloped surfaces not only elevate traditional Malay Perak architectural heritage within a contemporary context but also provide shade to the ground.

Transparent, floral-patterned facade screens embody the beauty of nature while allowing natural light to illuminate the interior spaces. A metallic grey-white facade colour was chosen to symbolize purity and to create a clear contrast against the lush greenery of the forest.

The Sultan Nazrin Shah PERKESO Rehabilitation Centre consists of 13 blocks. The central Nucleus block which is designed as an exhibition gallery featuring an open lobby at the centre of a 10-meter-high atrium. An 8-meter-diameter courtyard with curved glass serves as the “green heart” at the centre of the atrium. The expansive curved glass surface provides a clear view of the courtyard garden while allowing natural light to penetrate the atrium space.

The circular geometry of the Nucleus Block is designed with a gentle, continuous curved ramp leading to the upper levels. The ramp has a shallow gradient, allowing robotic exhibits and screens to be placed along the walls and the open design also allows visitors to overlook the atrium below from various heights.

The Neuro-Robotics and Cybernics Block integrate human-centred care with advanced cybernics technology. Equipped with a world-class deployment of Cyberdyne’s Hybrid Assistive Limb (HAL) robotic suits, the Sultan Nazrin Shah PERKESO Rehabilitation Centre is the only facility in Malaysia using this technology for its therapy and treatments.

Other remaining blocks also features an aquatic centre, a sports rehabilitation block, a surau, as well as a hotel block amongst others. The Sultan Nazrin Shah PERKESO Rehabilitation Centre has also received the GreenRE Platinum certification for its excellence in sustainable infrastructure.

The topping-out ceremony, which took place on January 2024, was attended by key stakeholders, including RSP Architects’ managing and design director Hud Bakar, along with representatives from UEM Sunrise, Crest Builder Sdn Bhd, and JPS Consulting Engineers Sdn Bhd. This event symbolizes the completion of the structural phase, with the construction progress reaching 75%. It is a pivotal moment in the project’s journey towards its scheduled completion.

Allevia stands on a 2.94-acre freehold site with a gross development value of RM545.9 million. The development features two towers with a total of 294 units, offering a range of built-up sizes from 1,703 to 2,634 square feet. The selling prices start from RM1.5 million and go up to RM2.5 million. The design by RSP Architects emphasizes modern aesthetics and luxury, with carefully curated amenities and architectural features.

One of the highlights of Allevia is its 0.9-acre open facility deck, designed to offer residents a variety of recreational options. This includes a lap pool, an open lawn, a wet and dry playground for children, and a barbecue area. Construction on the site commenced on 10th August 2023, with a target completion date of 10th April 2025. Currently, the construction activity is at about 9 to 10 percent of the overall work. Despite the hot and sunny weather conditions, which occasionally bring rain in the evenings, the contractor has adapted by pouring concrete at night, minimizing delays in the project schedule.

Construction Methods and Current Progress

The method of construction employed at Sura Gate is conventional, utilizing post-and-beam structures. The corridor slab profile plays a critical role in defining the sequence of levels and the overall architectural design. Presently, the work on both blocks A and B has made substantial progress. In block B, the construction has reached level 3, while block A has completed up to level 1. The superstructure for block B is progressing to level 2 with formwork in progress, and block A has completed formwork for level 1a.

Safety and Environmental Considerations

Safety on the construction site is a top priority, with strict adherence to safety regulations and practices. The site’s condition reflects a high standard of cleanliness and organization, with ongoing work managed effectively to ensure safety and efficiency.
